There’s so much to see that just visiting Rome’s absolute highlights takes several days. No other place has its artistic and cultural riches, from the grandiose ruins of the Imperial Roman Empire to the glories of the Vatican, and the sculptural and art masterpieces of the golden age of the Renaissance.
Rome is about style. Romans have an instinct for what looks good and the confidence to create and wear it. Much of Rome’s magic is in wandering around and sampling the fine food and wine of its many sidewalk osterias and trattorias. You can leave the major tourist routes and feel as if you are in a small medieval village. Look up at amazing roof gardens with all sorts of sculptures, paintings and religious icons. About Pompeii and Herculaneum Herculaneum
In A.D. 79 Pompeii was stopped in time by Mt. Etna’s eruption of debris and toxic fumes that covered the city of 20,000 souls under tons of volcanic ash and pumice and preserved the life of Pompeii as it was. Pompeii was a commercial center and resort for wealthy Romans and its ruins are larger, more diverse and better preserved than any other. They include one of the largest known Roman amphitheaters, impressive temples and streets lined with shops and villas. A visit to Pompeii gives you a clear idea about how ancient Romans lived and how sophisticated their society was. Many Pompeians, buried and frozen in time can be seen as they were two -thousand years ago. Since then, excavations have yielded more information about the lives of the Romans than any other place. Herculaneum is smaller than Pompeii, but offers remarkable art and a restored Roman villa to see.

We visit the Basilica of St. Francis housing the frescoes of the Giotto and Cimabue depicting his life and times. Another marvel we see is the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, containing the famous Porziuncola, where St. Francis consecrated St. Clara. After lunch we travel on to Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance.

Florence, founded by the Etruscans and cradle of the Renaissance, lies on the north bank of the Arno river and shelters so much beauty that it is known as the world’s "most splendid open air museum".
