About Ireland
The best thing about touring Ireland is that you see this wild and beautiful place by day and enjoy the conviviality of her charming people in the evening.  Most of all, Ireland is a land blessed with a warm and hospitable people who have given music and poetry to the English language.  It is a country steeped in history and tradition and abundant in art, literature, architecture and archaeology.  There are thousands of archeological sites, megalithic tombs, castles and ancient coastal settlements throughout the areas you will be visiting.  Famous for its daily rain (nobody ever came to Ireland looking for a tan), Ireland is also known for its soft and mild climate.  It is a country gifted in the finest craftsmanship for crystal, china, lace and elegant tweeds at reasonable prices.  This is a land where visitors return again and again because they just plain enjoy the lovely green island and her gregarious people.

About Irish Pubs
To enjoy Ireland at its best you should meet her people. In Ireland, pubs are not just for drinking but more for meeting people and conversation, music, and authentic entertainment.  Pubs will make a grand contribution to the atmosphere of your visit and the food, entertainment and conviviality they offer are enjoyable and typical of the Emerald Isle.

Probably, the best thing about visiting pubs is that you’ll walk off the veneer of your tour and actually meet local people as they are.  The difference between Irish peolple and American people is: most Americans say they are part Irish; most Irish people say they have relatives in America...Could be true?

Day 2. (B, D) Today we get acquainted with Dublin, followed by a visit to the Guiness Storehouse and see how Guiness beer is created.   Tonight we socialize at a welcome dinner. Dunboyne Caste Hotel, Dunboyne

We are welcomed to Ireland and take an orientation drive of Dublin’s city center.  Among the places we will see are: St. Patrick's Cathedral, which is as old as the city itself and famous for its connections with the brilliantly eccentric Dean Jonathan Swift.  Then we visit the Guinness Hopstore and are introduced to the world’s most famous dark stout beer.  The Guinness story is told through museum displays and presentations followed by a generous tasting of refreshing Guinness Stout on the roof-top bar with a great view of central Dublin.  Later, we travel to Dunboyne and check into our hotel.  There is time to relax before we socialize at a  welcome dinner at the hotel.

About Dublin
Dublin, established in the 9th century by Danish Vikings, and one of Europe’s most visited places, is a city with an ethic believing that people are more fun than statues, and conversation in a pub is the salt of life.  It’s a compact city that’s easy to get around.  Dublin will  entertain you as you walk along Grafton Street, its main drag lined with restaurants and shops, then stroll in the Georgian elegance of the southside.  Famous for Trinity College, The Book of Kells, the Chester Beatty Library (one of Europe’s major repositories of religious books), and John Mulligan’s Pub of Poolbeg Street (a unique experience), the literature of James Joyce and drama of Brendan Behan, Dublin offers much for you to enjoy.  Bloom’s Walk traces the steps of Leopold Bloom in James Joyce’s novel, Ulysses.

Trinity College, located in the center of Dublin and Ireland’s premiere university, was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth.  Trinity’s gem is the magnificent “Book of Kells,” dating back to around 800, making this illuminated manuscript one of the world’s oldest books.  At Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Saint Patrick himself is said to have baptised converts at a well on cathedral grounds.

Day 3. (B,D) Today we traverse Ireland and visit Lockes Distillery and see how whiskey was distilled, then continue over the Irish countryside.   Tonight we enjoy dinner and entertainment at Padraicin’s Restaurant. Clayton Hotel, Galway

We Depart Dunboyne this morning and drive west stopping just outside Kilbeggan for a tour of Locke’s Distillery.  Established in 1757 and preserved to show visitors how whiskey was originally distilled, and sample some real Irish whiskey. We continue west through the fertile midland region, scattered with farms and marketing towns, and be introduced to Irish rural life.  We travel over the countryside through the towns of Moate, Athlone and Ballinasloe to Galway, the gateway city to the west of Ireland.  We’ll see the modern cathedral set on an island on the River Corrib, the Spanish Arch in the Claddagh area, formerly a fishing village, the City Museum, National University of Galway and the Cathedral of Our Lady, built on the site of a former county jail.

Tonight there’s dinner and entertainment at Padraicin’s Restaurant, located on the the shores of Galway Bay with a splendid view of the bay.

About Galway
Galway county, a highlight of any visit to Ireland, stretching through the midlands and the wilds of Connemara to the craggy Atlantic coast, has just about everything packed into it.  Galway city became an important walled town under the Anglo-Normans in 1270.  Its delightful with narrow streets, old wooden and stone storefronts, pleasant restaurants and busy pubs exuding Irish coastal charm.  It’s Ireland’s fourth largest city and, although dynamic and cosmopolitan, Galway has a great crowd of artists poets and musicians because of its University.  Travellers love the nightlife, restaurants and pubs where talk, music and drink flow like a river.

Day 4. (B, L) We tour the stark and beautiful Connemara where the movies “The Quiet Man” and “The Field” were filmed.  Clayton Hotel, Galway

Today we tour Connemara where we will enjoy that stark scenery.  Connemara is so beautiful that it’s often filmed in movies. It’s a land of romantic landscapes, constantly changing skys and colors offset by wild and craggy coastlines where the old Irish language is still spoken. Connemara's ever changing combinations of sky, sea cliffs and mountains is famous for its dramatic changes of color and mood.  It’s a stunning patchwork of boggs, lonely valleys, pale mountains and shimmering lakes.  We’ll visit the quaint village of Spiddal where the Irish language is spoken and many ancient traditions remain.  Tonight we dine at our hotel.

Day 5. (B, D) This morning we attend to our professional agenda; then travel via the Cliffs of Moher to Buratty for a medieval banquet (and some fun) at Buratty Castle. Bunratty Castle Hotel

After breakfast we attend to our professional agenda.  Then we travel through the Irish countryside to the Cliffs of Moher, a wall of rock that plunges 700 feet into the churning Atlantic Ocean. From there we’re off to the Bunratty Castle Hotel where we’ll stay.  Tonight we have fun at a medieval banquet at the Castle.  We’ll be welcomed by Colleens in 15th century gowns and given Irish friendship bread before we are seated at a long full table before the “Lord of the Castle.”  High pageantry prevails here and serving girls interrupt their duties to sing Irish ballads, play the harp, and tell us long stories for our pleasure.  We will be served authentic medieval food (very tasty) and wash it down with mead and wine as our festive evening rolls on.  After the festivities end, we visit 'Durty Nelly's,' singing pub that’s as famous as Bunratty Castle.

Day 6. (B,D) We tour Limerick, and Adare with all its thatched houses.   We’ll also visit Foynes Flying Boat Museum, where Irish Coffee was invented. Bunratty Castle Hotel

We drive east into Limerick for a panoramic tour of the city, which features the sights made famous in Frank McCourt’s biography, “Angela’s Ashes.” Pass the 13th century King John's Castle in the center of the town.  This imposing fortress with its massive walls and towers has guarded the River Shannon crossing for the past 700 years. Then we visit Adare, famous for its main street of thatched houses.  Next we continue on to Foynes and visit the Foynes Flying Boat Museum. During the 1930s the port of Foynes was the fulcrum point for air traffic between the United States and Europe. The famous Pan American flying boats were transited Foyne, carrying passengers who ranged from celebrities to refugees. (Irish Coffee was invented in Foyne to warm and welcome Pan Am passengers being ferried from the aircraft to the shore.) The rest of the day is free.

Day 7. (B, D) Today we return to Dublin via Limerick and the Rock of Cashel.   Tonight we dine and are entertained at the famous Abbey Tavern. Bewleys Balsbridge Hotel, Dublin.

We depart Bunratty and drive through through Limerick and the Glen of Aherlow to Cashel where we visit the Rock of Cashel, an impressive collection of ecclesiastical ruins dating from the 12th and 13th centuries perched high on a spectacular limestone cliff.  We travel through the prosperous farming center of Ireland via the towns of Portlaoise and Kildare, located in the horse-breeding region.  In Dublin we check into our hotel with time for leisure and relaxation.

This evening we’re at the Abbey Tavern for dinner and a traditional ballad session, and some untraditional jokes.  Built on the site of an old abbey, this pub has been in business for over 200 years. On our way through Howth, on the north side of the city, we’ll enjoy  great views of Dublin Bay.

Day 8. (B) This morning we tour central Dublin and visit Trinity College, Kilmainham Gaoland the Four Courts Building. This afternoon is free for browsing and shopping. Bewleys Balsbridge Hotel, Dublin.

Especially about political prisoners, from the 1916 Rising, detained here because of their efforts to free Ireland.  In Trinity College we view the 8th century Book of Kells.

Day 9. (B,D)   Today we visit the Four Courts Building and a local law practice.  This afternoon is free. Tonight we take a Literary Pub Crawl. Bewleys Balsbridge hotel, Dublin.

Day 10. (B) We return to the USA arriving back in New York in the early afternoon.
