Your Tour To Greece
Welcome to Greece, where you will see the most important sites in this birthplace of our Western Civilization. You will also sunbathe, cruise, socialize, sightsee and enjoy excellent food and wine in the heart of civilization. Relevant optional professional visits have been organized for you to broaden your professional background.
Here at the rich birthplace of Western Civilization you will visit Greece's important sights and most popular islands when the weather is at its best. You will feel history when when you climb the ancient Acropolis; when you bathe in Ulysses' glistening Aegean Sea which the mythic Hydra ruled.
At Epidaurus you will visit the site of the great classical theater that still has the best acoustics in the world. On the islands of Mykonos, Rhodes, Patmos and Crete you will enjoy the sights that artists and writers have loved for thousands of years.
Greece is a shoppers paradise for Americans. In the shadow of the Acropolis you will roam through hundreds of shops filled with furs, icons, art objects, pottery - and the most beautifully designed jewelry that you have ever seen.
Day 1. (D) We depart New York's JFK Airport for Athens, Greece in the early
evening. You will be met at the airport by your CPC tour manager. Flight information will be provided when you register.
Day 2. (B,D) We arrive in Athens. This evening we socialize at an Ouzo welcome party.
(Divani Palace Acropolis Hotel)
We arrive in Athens in the morning and are met and assisted at the airport by our local representative and transported to the centrally located Divani Palace Acropolis Hotel, a moderate deluxe hotel offering a swimming pool, lounge and full restaurant service along with all the amenities that you would expect from a fine accommodation. This evening we will socialize at a welcome Ouzo party at our hotel.
Day 3. (B,D) We go sightseeing in Athens and meet with Greek nurses at a major hospital. This evening we enjoy a “Plaka Dinner Show” (Divani Palace Acropolis Hotel)
Today we first meet with Greek nurses at a major hospital followed by sightseeing in Athens. We first visit the Acropolis of Athens, antiquity's most splendid group of buildings where most of the ancient monuments of Athens can be conveniently seen. We will then visit the Parthenon, the "Virgins Chamber" which is the most perfect example of Doric architecture in existence. As you walk back into the history of Western Civilization you will be
awestruck by the artifacts of ancient civilization that you will see there.
Next we visit the Plaka, Athens old quarter and the treasure filled
Archaeological Museum. Later, you will have time to roam the narrow twisting streets
of the Plaka and scout out some magnificent shopping opportunities. After
sightseeing we return to our hotel. This evening we enjoy a Plaka dinner
show in a colorful taverna.
Day 4. (B,L,D) We begin our four day cruise through the Greek Islands. Our
first port of call is the beautiful Island of Mykonos.
About your cruise ship: Louis Helenic Cruise ship Aquamarine.
You will cruise aboard Louis Helenic Cruise ship Aquamarine which has
well appointed cabin furnishings, carpeting,, televisions and upgraded
telephone system. Among this ship’s amenities are: dining room, buffet,
entertainment lounge, swimming pool, sauna, air conditioning throughout, disco bar,
piano bar, fitness center, restaurant and casino.
Please keep in mind that the cabins on Greek Island cruisers are
comfortable and fully equipped, but not as large as those on Caribbean Island
cruisers where most activities are on board.
Our first port of call is Mykonos. With sundrenched hills dotted by
white chapels, windmills and pastel painted cupolas rising from the blue sea,
Mykonos is a pleasure to see. There’s ample time to browse along the port
or take an optional sightseeing tour.
Day 5. (B,L,D) We cruise to Kusadasi (Turkey) and the beautiful island of
Patmos.
Kusadasi is a charming seaside town of cafes and craft shops. There’s
a good excursion here to Ephesus where St. Paul preached, St. John wrote the
Gospel and where the Virgin Mary died. Our next port of call is Patmos,
Greece. The northernmost of the Eastern Islands, Patmos was declared sacred
by the Greek government in 1980 and is where St. John wrote the Apocalypse.
It’s very serene.
Day 6. (B,L,D) We visit the cosmopolitan island of Rhodes.
The great island of Rhodes with its picturesque walled towns is
Greece’s biggest and most cosmopolitan resort. Named after the Greek Nymph Rhodos,
its city was designed in 408 B.C. by the first city-planner in Europe -the
architect Hippodamas. Later, Rhodes succeeded Athens as the main commercial
power of the Aegean and introduced maritime law and a new school of
colossal sculpture.
Day 7. (B,L,D) We cruise to Heraklion, the capital of Crete and seat of
Europe’s oldest civilization.
Then we cruise to Santorini.
Around 2000 B.C. when the rest of Europe was sleeping in caves, Crete
had established a brilliant and amazing civilization presided over by the
court of King Minos. Crete is Greece’s largest and most scenically rewarding
island and its Architectural Museum is in a class of its own splendidly
guarding all the Minoan treasures. There is much to see here with optional
excursions to Santorini.
Santorini the “Black Pearl of the Cyclades” is a striking volcanic
island that impresses visitiors with its rocky cliffs, black lava beaches and
5,000 year history.
Day 8. (B,D) We disembark from our cruise and take a full day tour to
Mycenae, Epidaurus and Asklipeion, The Temple of the God of Healing.
(Divani Palace Acropolis Hotel)
We arrvive in Piraeus early this morning for more sightseeing. First
we visit ancient Mycenae, a fortified palace complex first mentioned in
Homer’s epics where we’ll see the Treasury of Atreus and Tomb of Clytemnestra.
Then we’re off to Epidaurus where we see the best preserved theater in Greece
which seats 14,000 spectators. Its acoustics are so perfect that every
word can be heard at its farthest place during a dramatic performance. Finally
we see Asklipeion and the Temple of the God of Healing and ancient medicine
whose serpent emblem is still the universal symbol of medicine. We return
via the Corinth Road to Athens and the Divani.
Day 9. (B,D) Today is free to shop or follow your own agenda. Your local
guide will have a list of activities to choose from.
(Divani Palace Acropolis Hotel)
Day 10. (B,L) This morning we are taken to the airport for our flight home
and arrive in New York in the early afternoon.
