Welcome to Turkey.
Since visiting Turkey, President and Mrs. Bush and Secretary Hillary Clinton have encouraged Americans to visit Turkey and see its magnificent sites. An ally and friend of the United States for decades, Turkey is one of the most fascinating lands in the World that you can visit. You will experience the eternal romance of Turkey, and discover the seat of many civilizations and empires. Home at times to the Hittite, Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires, this beautiful land integrates elements of East and West. Turkey abounds with archaeological ruins of Greece, Rome and the ancient Hittite Empire. You will travel along the same Mediterranean coastline that Anthony gave to Cleopatra, visit Homer's Troy, the Ephesian Theater where St. Paul preached and see the sunset amidst the stone heads of fallen gods. A country whose essence is the tolerance of many different cultures, Turkey is easing its way into the future in a civilized way. Shopping is fantastic with endless buys in leather goods, jewelry and fashion fabrics.
Day 3. (B,L) We meet with Turkish nurses, sightsee in Ankara, and then travel to Cappadocia. Four Star Peri Tower Hotel,
After breakfast we attend to our professional agenda and meet with Turkish nurses at a local hospital. Later, we travel to Cappadoccia by air conditioned motorcoach while we sightsee on our way.
About Cappadocia and its underground cities
Cappadocia is a strange corner of Turkey that is unique to the world. Over time, frequent volcanic eruptions covered much of this land with a layer of mud, ashes and lava. Erosion created a surreal splendor of cones, needles, pyramids and pillars in a starkly beautiful range of yellow, pink, violet-grey and russet colors. During the 7th century, to escape persecution from Roman armies, early Christians built complete underground cities 14 stories deep enabling them to hide for months from marauding Romans. They were hidden so well that they were only rediscovered in the 1960's. We will see the most famous cities of Derenku and Kaymaki.
Day 4. (B,L) We are in Cappadocia and visit Goreme, Zelve, and the ancient underground city of Kaymakli. Four Star Peri Tower Hotel,
Today we tour the Gorem Valley, known for its many churches carved into the rock of the region between the 7th and 13th cenuries when it was said Goreme had a church for every day of the year. These living museums display the original early Christian frescoes. The most famous of these cities are Derinku and Kaymakli. Kaymakli's underground chambers boasts wine cellars, chapels, stables and tombs. Then we see the ancient villages of Uchisar and Zelve.

St. Paul and St. Barnabus preached there in the years 47 - 53 when it was named Claudiconium for Emperor Claudius. Later, in 1207 it became home of Meviama the great mystic who created the rite of the Whirling Dervishes which you'll see during your visit. The shrine is a creation of beauty and oppulence.

Among the sights you will see are the Hellenistic Temple of Aphrodite, the Roman Baths of Hadrian, the Byzantine Wall, and an ancient Roman stadiium capable of seating 30,000 people. More about Ephesus follows.
About Ephesus
Ephesus is the most famous of the cities of Asia Minor. The Roman historian Herodotus believed that the most ancient people in Anatolia were the Amazons who originally founded Ephesus. Famous for its Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders of the World) this sacred city was forgotten until the early 20th century when it was rediscovered. Now, it is one of the world's largest archaeological sites, divided into three areas: the Temple of Artemis, the Basilica of St. John and the city of Ephesus. When St. Paul preached the Gospels in 53 AD, he built Ephesus into a center of Christianity through his persuasion and perseverance. Later, many of Christianity's priciples were established there in 431 AD. It is recorded that the Virgin Mary lived the last years of her life in Ephesus. We will visit her house.
