Dr James Sikarskie has been the Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarian at Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine for over 30 years. He was the Veterinarian for the Lansing, Michigan Zoo and has worked with Wildlife, both captive and free-ranging the whole time. He has developed the American Bald Eagle as an environmental biomonitor in the Great Lakes Basin and has a lot of field experience. He has a graduate degree in Wildlife Management (Population Dynamics and Wildlife Ecology) and is a Board Certified Diplomate in the American College of Zoological Medicine. He has been education leader before and his lecture topics were rated extremely enjoyable as well as educational.

Each cabin has a private bath with bath hair dryer, in-house music and great views of the Nile. The dining room, bar and lounge feature entertainment.

Each cruise has a masquerade party. Your Movenpick cruiser has a swimming pool and sun deck. Tea is served each afternoon on the sun deck. Tour briefings and shore excursions are under the personal guidance of expert Egyptologists.

Day 1 We meet at JFK airport and depart New York for Cairo via in the early evening. There is full in-flight meal service. We depart for Egypt at 6:30PM via Egyptair’s non-stop flight to Cairo.

Day 2 (B,D) We arrive in Cairo and are taken to the Cairo Conrad Hotel This evening we socialize at a welcome dinner. We arrive in Cairo this afternoon, are met and assisted through customs and transported to our hotel. The afternoon is free to shake off jet lag. This evening we socialize at a welcome dinner.

Day 3 (B,L) This morning we visit the ancient cities of Memphis and Sakkara. We continue our sightseeing at the Pyramids of Giza , the Sphinx and the Valley Temple. We also ride camels.

Cairo Conrad Hotel
This morning,we travel back in time and visit the ancient capital of Egypt at Memphis. Here will see the gigantic statue of Ramses II, the Temple of Ptah and the ancient Sphinx. We will then move to the old Necropolis of Sakkara where, in the shifting desert sands, stand the oldest Pyramids known to man. We will visit the tomb of Ptahotep. the Serapeum, the famous Pyramid of Zoser. Next we visit the picturesque Mena House Hotel and enjoy lunch. Next we visit one of the seven wonders of the world, the Pyramids of Giza. When you face the Great Sphinx as it silently defends this ancient resting place of the Pharaohs of Egypt, you will be swept back thousands of years into the very beginning of civilization. During the day we will also ride camels

Day 4 (B,D) We meet with Egyptian veterinarians at a local hospital, then visit the Egyptian Museum (including the Tutankhamen exhibit) and Old Cairo. Tonight we enjoy “Sound and Light Show” depicting the history of ancient Egypt.

Cairo Conrad Hotel
This morning we meet with Egyptian veterinarians at a local practice and learn about veterinary medicine in Egypt. Next we visit the Egyptian Museum. Incidentally, Egyptian things are so ancient that a very special area of studies was organized to study them. Known as Egyptology, this area of science is devoted only to the study of ancient Egyptian artifacts. During this comprehensive tour of the Egyptian Museum, we will be more able to understand all of the ancient sites and civilizations we visit during our Nile River Cruise. We will also have time to enjoy the famous Tutankhamen Exhibit. Tonight, we enjoy a sound and light show that dramatizes the history of ancient Egypt.

Day 5 (B, L) Today we visit Cairo Zoo and meet with our colleagues. Later, we have lunch at the Al Azhar restaurant, then visit The Citadel, Alabaster Sutan Hassan Mosques, the Khalili Bazaar. Late this afternoon we travel to Luxor and stay at the deluxe Winter Palace Hotel, situated on the banks of the Nile River amidst a tropical garden near Luxor Temple.

Day 6 (B,L,D) This morning we visit a local veterinary medicine practice and meet with our Egytian colleagues. Then Board our Movenpick Nile River Cruiser for lunch. Later, we tour the East Bank and the Karnak and Luxor Temples. (Movenpick Nile River Cruiser)

This morning we visit a local veterinary medicne practice and meet with our Egyptian colleagues. We then board our cruise ship and have lunch. Then we sightsee in this ancient metropolis. Luxor has long been a favorite resort because of its beautiful location. It is a city of the past and was the center of Egyptian power and glory from 2100 to 750 B.C. . We visit the immense and magnificent 4,000 year old Karnak Temple of the Sun God Amon (a vast and complex labyrinth of alleyways, sanctuaries and courtyards). Later, we will travel on to the Luxor Temple, paved in silver in ancient times, it remains unforgettable today. Most interesting is the 97 foot high Obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut. This solid piece of pink granite stands in the third court. As you pass through successive pylons and courts you travel back into time until you reach the oldest part of the temple that was built by the Pharaohs of the middle kingdom.

Day 7 (B,L,D) We are cruising on the Nile River. We visit the West Bank and see the Necropolis of Thebes, among other artifacts.. (Movenpick Nile River Cruiser)

After breakfast we cross by ferry over to the West Bank of the Nile river. The West Bank is a vast burial city that is dedicated to the eternal afterlife that was central to the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. They had a precise concept of the afterlife, and observed elaborate rituals to enter into eternity. Our visit to the West Bank will give insight into these ancient ways. Among the sights that we will see on the West Bank are: the Necropolis of Thebes, the Colossi of Memnon, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the Valley of the Kings (with tombs dating back to the 20th Dynasty) the Tomb of Tutankhamun, smallest of the tombs in the valley and the tombs of Amenophis III and Ramses VI. We will also see the largest and most splendid tomb in the valley - that of Seti I. Nearby is the Valley of the Queens where we will see the beautifully decorated tombs of Queen Nefertari, and Queen Nefertiti. We then visit the Tomb of Nacht, and the Tombs of Menna and Ramose. This evening we attend to our professional agenda.

Day 8 (B,L,D) We are cruising on the Nile River, visit Esna and then sail to Edfu and see the 2000 year old Temple of Edfu. Tonight we enjoy a masquerade party. (Movenpick Nile River Cruiser)

We sail to Esna and visit the Temple of Khnum, located beneath the surface of the earth, and dedicated to the ram-headed potter god who fashioned beasts, birds and men from Nile River clay. This temple is well preserved and restored. The drawings within it are representations of a Pharaoh found in Egypt. Next, we sail to Edfu and visit the 2000 year old Edfu Temple (the temple dedicated to Horus, the falcon headed god) The temple is almost as it was, and is one of the the best preserved examples of Ptolemaic art in Egypt; and the best preserved of all Egyptian temples dedicated to Horus, the falcon headed god. On its walls are fine drawings of the New Years Day ceremonial procession. This evening we sail on to Kom Ombo. Tonight there will be a party aboard our cruiser. Everyone is invited to dress up and enjoy the company of your fellow passengers. You can rent costumes on board ship.

Day 9 (B,L,D) We are cruising on the Nile River. We sail from Kom Ombo to Aswan. Tonight we relax and socialize. (Movenpick Nile River Cruiser)

We are in Kom Ombo. In Kom Ombo we visit the Ptolomic Temple that was built in the early second century and dedicated to the two gods of Obos (the crocodile-headed Sobek and the falcon headed Haroeris). We will see the altar of sacrifice, the secret crypt and the pool where the crocodiles were kept. Later we will sail on to Aswan. Aswan has long been a favorite resort because of its beautiful location. We will visit the High Dam, the Old Dam, the Philae Temple and the Granite Quarries. Here we will board an ancient felucca sail boat and sail to the Botanical Gardens of the Aga Khan Mausoleum, Elephantine Island, Kitchener's Island. Evening reserved for professional activity.

Day 10 (B,L) This morning we return to Cairo. This afternoon is free. Cairo Conrad Hotel Later we board our aircraft for our return trip to Cairo. The remainder of the day is free.

Day 11 (B,D) This morning is reserved for professional activities. This afternoon is free. Tonight we enjoy a farewell dinner cruise. Cairo Conrad Hotel

Day 12 (B, Inflight meals) This morning we return to New York, via Egyptair flight MS985 arriving there at 3:15PM

After breakfast this morning we go to Cairo Airport for our return flight to New York where inflight meals will be served. We arrive at JFK Airport in the mid-afternoon.
